2009 ACPA Summer Internship
Career Resource Center, University of Florida
This competitive internship allowed me to engage in a national application/interview process and polish skills that will be necessary during my upcoming job search; it also provided me with countless opportunities to learn what career services is really about. Also a generalist position, the internship was created to introduce new professional to career services and my supervisor allowed me to take on a wide variety of projects. I was able to see first-hand the impact that career services could have on a student body if they chose to utilize available services, and I discovered that I have an interest in working with career services… maybe in combination with a school of music! Additionally, I gained exposure to how a campus of 50,000+ students operates on a daily basis. The CRC invited me to return to campus during Fall semester 2009 and volunteer at the Career Showcase, which gave me familiarity in working at an event housing 10,000+ constituents; an opportunity that will be valuable as I seek recruitment jobs. I also find value in creating a network of professionals for myself from outside the state of Ohio, since I have never lived and worked that far from home. Overall, I say without hesitation that choosing to spend my summer at UF’s CRC was one of my best professional development decisions to date.
